​This is my first painting of the Hydrangea flowers and it was done in my sketchbook. This is a smaller version of the Hydrangea Symphony painting, and the colours applied in this piece are a little different than the bigger piece. The colours applied in this small painting are more muted and a little less rich than the bigger painting. My intention for this piece;  I wanted to work on a smaller scale so that I could work quickly and loosely to capture the softness of this flower, and I also wanted to keep up my momentum of working. I felt that working on a bigger space could make me lose my momentum as it takes a longer time to paint and wait for the layers to dry before adding more colours. I also wanted to work on a smaller scale so that I could add fine details (lines and dots) in a quick and fluid manner. I was feeling especially inspired when I painted this piece and I had a good time exploring the different colours and playful brush strokes!
